Student Spotlight: Katherine R.

student spotlight Nov 29, 2022

Students who struggle to learn to read in kindergarten and first grade often experience anxiety, self-doubt, and fear of failure. When Katherine started our program in first grade, reading made her want to run and hide. Her parents were concerned that her struggle with reading would become a barrier to success in other areas of her life.

Since finishing our program in October, Katherine's relationship to reading has completely transformed. Katherine's parents are delighted by their daughter's progress:

"After getting started we saw great gains in her speech, reading, and writing, so much so that when 2nd grade started the teacher had no idea she had been struggling or had a 504 in place. As the program continued we saw her take risks, try new things, and also experience confidence and more self-acceptance and compassion. She has her spark back."

We're so proud of Katherine and so excited about what the future has in store for her!
